Free Bay Area ADU Expo Gives Homeowners Hands-On Access to Planning Guidance, Full-Scale Units and ADU Experts

OAKLAND, CA, UNITED STATES, August 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Bay Area homeowners considering an accessory dwelling unit can explore their options firsthand at the Bay Area ADU Expo Fall 2026, taking place September 26–27 at The Bridge Yard in Oakland. The free public event will give attendees direct access to planning representatives, educational presentations, ADU professionals and full-scale units they can walk through.

An ADU can give homeowners more flexibility, whether they need space for family, rental income, guest accommodations or a dedicated home office. However, considering an ADU brings up questions about design, permitting, financing, construction and utilities. At the Bay Area ADU Expo, homeowners can compare approaches and ask questions without trying to sort through information online.

Homeowners can learn directly from the San Francisco Planning Department and the City of Oakland Planning & Building Department. San Francisco Planning will host an information table and educational presentation on Saturday, while Oakland Planning & Building will answer questions about local permitting requirements and processes. Their participation is educational and does not imply endorsement of the Expo, its exhibitors, or participating companies.
Attendees will also be able to step inside full-scale units from Pacifica Tiny Homes, Epic Modulars, Tiny Home Cottages, Origin Studio, and Velux. Touring a completed unit gives homeowners a practical sense of dimensions and layout that floor plans don’t provide.

Throughout the weekend, educational sessions will break down the practical decisions involved in planning an ADU, including design, financing, permitting, construction, utility coordination, and fire safety. On Sunday, Trisha Guido of the ADU Center will host an information table and give a presentation. The organization provides unbiased guidance to help homeowners plan and build an ADU.

Sylvia Aguilar of Casita Coalition will also present ADU Basics in 2026: What Homeowners Need to Know. Build It Green will present on Sunday and share information about its housing and sustainability initiatives. Attendees can also talk directly with builders, designers, lenders, technology companies and housing professionals about the options available for their projects.

“There’s a big difference between reading about ADUs and being able to walk through one, ask a specific question and talk directly with people who work through these issues every day,” said Convo Events LLC. “We want homeowners to leave with a clearer understanding of their options and a better sense of what they need to consider next.”

The Expo will also offer space to slow down between presentations and tours. MasayaCo will transform The Bridge Yard terrace into an outdoor lounge furnished with its award-winning furniture, where attendees can relax, enjoy drinks and connect with representatives. Visitors can also enter free MasayaCo gift-card giveaways on both public days.

The Bay Area ADU Expo Fall 2026 will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, and 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, at The Bridge Yard, 210 Burma Road, Oakland, California 94607.

General admission is free. Pre-registration is encouraged to reserve admission and speed up event check-in, though walk-in guests are also welcome. Event information and registration are available at bayareaaduexpo.com.

The Oakland event follows the inaugural Bay Area ADU Expo held in San Jose earlier in 2026, which drew more than 1,800 attendees and over 35 exhibitors.
