MARICOPA , AZ, UNITED STATES, September 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Independent music project Fish For Brains, led by producer and artist Phillip Andrew Rose, is currently holding first place in Group Round 3 of the 2026 Timbaland x Orbiiit Global Talent Search. Entering the competition with a new collaborative track featuring his niece, Rose is using the platform to promote human creativity in music production. His goal is to encourage the next generation of musicians while showing appreciation for the hard work of everyone entered in the contest.
The submitted track brings a highly unique, cross-genre approach to the competition. When discussing the inspiration for the entry, Rose asked, “What happens when an Aquabats fan enters a hip-hop contest?” referencing the popular, kid-friendly ska band. The resulting production blends hip-hop with ska guitar elements, real piano, synthesizer sounds, and a custom shaker made with coffee beans. His niece directly contributed to the songwriting process and designed the single’s cover artwork. For Rose, the collaboration is a direct statement on current industry trends. “Support young indie artists,” Rose stated, emphasizing that “indie artists don’t use ai to make music.”
The entry represents the first song Rose completed after setting up his home recording studio. Fish For Brains began as an experimental side project during Rose’s teenage years in San Diego, California, where he spent his time playing in bands and writing lyrics. Driven by a background in punk, ska, and blues music, the project is not tied to any specific genre; rather, it represents any and every sound he hears in his head. The name “Fish For Brains” holds multiple meanings that will be revealed alongside future releases once his recording studio is fully built.
The 2026 Timbaland x Orbiiit Global Talent Search offers independent artists a chance to compete for a share of $100,000 in cash prizes, a studio master class with producer Timbaland, and an opportunity to be featured on an upcoming Timbaland x Orbiiit album. The competition also operates alongside a charity partner, the Adopting Courage Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting underserved youth.
Public voting for Group Round 3 closes on September 16.
